Lion President Joe Sykora introduced our speaker Lion E. Paul Descant, II. Lion Paul Descant MD
spoke of his joining the Tomball Lions Club in August of 1982 in the second wave of new members;

the first wave were the founding members who chartered the Club n May of 1982. He spoke about when
and where the Club initially held their meetings, names of some of the original members, projects,
promoting Lionism and recruiting new members. His informative, enjoyable presentation included:

- 13 men started the Club;
- Started as a breakfast club;
- Built up soon to 34 members;
- Changed from breakfast meetings to lunch meetings, initially at Hilltop Restaurant;
- Moved to various local restaurants over the years before ending up here at Pecos Grilling;
- He helped start up EMS in Tomball in 1976.
Lion President Joe Sykora also introduced Lion Paul Hancock’s guest, Lion Liza Garza. Lion Garza serves
with him on the Lions Eye Bank Bowl-A-Thon committee. Liza is the founder of the Houston Lady Lions
Club and the Houston Metroplex Veterans Lions Club. Lion Liza gave a short presentation about her
role with the Army Association/Our Community Salutes ceremonies. Liza is also president of U.S. Army
Houston Recruiting Battalion Community Relations Team, president of the Association of the United
States Army, Houston Metroplex Chapter, Chairwoman of Our Community Salutes Harris County. Lion
Liza Garza brought a cake to commemorate the upcoming birthday of the U.S. Army.
