Lion Bob Ervin introduced guest speakers Richard Gatewood and Camille Hamilton who are Committee Members for Families Feeding Families. This organization was started in 2011 by business people and volunteers to provide Thanksgiving meals to needy families in the greater Tomball area. In addition to the Thanksgiving meal provided on the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving they provide haircuts, flu shots, coats, gloves, blankets, etc. to the needy. The Thanksgiving meal is served at Christ Bridge Fellowship Church. The organization has over 400 volunteers for these efforts with a 2015 budget of $25,000. They rely on donations from area churches and organizations like The Lions to meet their funding needs.

Guest Corrine Rodriquez then discussed the annual Houston Chronicle special edition supplement to the paper on March 27th which showcases Houston area charitable organizations and meant to broaden the organization’s donor base. This is done by corporations purchasing advertisements in this special edition in the name of charities.

Lions District Governor Noah Speer then gave a State of the District report and spoke more about the Humanitarian Relief Fund and its work in helping needy individuals within the District. This fund is supported by a portion of each Lion’s dues.
