David Maulsby, Executive Director of Camp Hope told how Nationally about 20 combat veterans take their own life every day.  To address the invisible wounds of war, Camp Hope was opened in 2012 and provides a place where combat veterans and their immediate family members can find healing, help and hope while benefitting from intensive peer support and a mentoring program for combat related post-traumatic stress.  In addition to temporary housing, Camp Hope provides a 6 month program in which residents attend group lessons and support sessions with other combat veterans; conduct individual mentoring sessions with certified combat trauma mentors; participate in off-site small group interaction activities; get involved with local churches, businesses and volunteer organizations to assist in their personal healing and educating the community on the invisible wounds of war.  Camp Hope is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  It receives no government support and relies entirely on donations of time, materials and monies from the community for support.  It currently has about 70 residents and continues to expand its facilities.  Mr. Maulsby introduced two veterans who have been through Camp Hope’s program.  One of them, Michael, shared his personal story of how, after doing combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and receiving his honorable discharge, his private life became disorganized with alcohol and drug abuse.  After reaching a low point in his life, Michael accidently came upon Camp Hope when he made a wrong turn while in route to his job.  He described how that wrong turn actually turned his life around after getting admitted to Camp Hope.  For more information:  https://ptsdusa.org/
