Bruce Hillegeist, President of the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce, was introduced by Lion President Mike Halbach.  Pictured left to right are Lion President Mike Halbach, Lion Secretary Paul Hancock, Speaker Bruce Hillegeist, new Lion Member Ken Neal and Lion Don Pribilski.
 
Bruce gave a very informative presentation of the Tomball area with respect to residential, commercial, and mobility growth.  Bruce’s father was a Tomball Lion and Bruce is very knowledgeable of our role in and around the community.  Some highlights of Bruce’s presentation follow:
 
  • Bruce has served 25 years as President of the Chamber.
  • The Chamber was instrumental in saving and moving the Tomball Railroad Depot to its present location, about 30 years ago.
  • The Chamber is one of few that is accredited.
  • Chamber is great referral and information source.
  • Our Lions Club is a member of the Chamber.
  • Chamber is sponsoring a small business luncheon meeting next Friday.
  • Discussed Texas historical facts.
  • Origination of town name from Thomas Henry Ball who was instrumental in bringing the railroad to Tomball.
  • Excellent school district in Tomball which is attractive to big businesses on the move.
  • Population in a 10-mile radius of Tomball is 434,000.
  • Region’s (9 counties) future population growth is phenomenal.
  • Chamber instrumental in speeding up progress on SH 249 and on direct connectors at Grand Parkway and SH 249.
  • Main Street/FM 2920 in downtown Tomball future planning.
  • Tomball Farmers Market—plans to build kitchen for vendors.
  • Business Park at Holderrieth Road and Hufsmith/Khorville has numerous businesses and more coming.
  • Various other developments and growth in the area.
  • Railroad Museum expansion.
  • VA Clinic.
  • Main goal for the Chamber is to promote Tomball!
